School is out, summer is on the way and I have a car again! Photographic opportunities are where ever I see fit! This was taken last night (May 20th) in Reno, NV. These are the Huffaker Hills on the Southeast side of Reno. They Volcanic rocks sharply contrast the granite in most of the area.
A storm system had just passed Reno and I wasn't sure I would get a good shot this night. I decided to go out anyway. I figured I wouldn't get the shot I had planned, and been waiting for since last year...[link] I wanted that scene with my new camera. So I pulled into the trailhead about 30 minutes before sunset and started looking for a composition. The whole time I was there the wind was blowing a constant 20 mph with gusts up to about 30.
I ended up here. I like the two rocks in the foreground and how they slightly mirror the two peaks of the hills. This was taken right after the sun went behind a bank of clouds about 20 minutes before the actual sunset. The light was constantly fading on the scene, So the light and the colors constantly changed in this 1 minute exposure. I had no idea that the clouds would move this seeing as they where a huge mass sitting over the city.
